Andrea’s brother, Gordon, planted some empty Corona beer bottles nose down in our garden. We did not see them until after he left. Andrea asked him why he did that and he replied, ’cause I thought some beer trees might grow, I’ve been trying for years. Well this week he came down for a visit with his wife Colleen. The went for a walk out to the garden and this is what they saw.
He enjoyed the harvest and the feeling he’d finally succeeded.
This rose was given by a great grandfather on my mom’s side of the family (Christensen) to his wife over 100 years ago. Through the years the rose was clipped and new ones grown and then once again clipped and grown. I took some clippings when I was at the Bateman family reunion this summer at Jan Christensen’s home. One looks pretty good for surviving with new growth. Two others have no growth yet but the stems are green and they are rooting.
